A Virtuous Woman

On my last blog, I mentioned that there are TWO characteristics of a woman that are discussed in Proverbs. The last one mentioned was a Prudent woman...she has practical wisdom...she knows HOW to handle her natural affairs. The second characteristic is a Virtuous Woman. She's probably the most popular one because you hear the question "Who can find a Virtuous Woman?" across every pulpit in this world. The one thing that people say about her is that she has ALL of the natural abilities in Proverbs 31. I mean REALLY, reading her duties and actually looking at your lifestyle, it's easy to get discouraged realizing that you are no where near doing what she can do. Well, I have good news!!! Being Virtuous is not what you DO, but it's who you ARE...it's possessing the very essence of the Spirit of God inside of you.

I tip my hat off to "Miss Thing" in Proverbs 31 because she really has it going on, but I'm here to tell you that the Lord has taken us off of the hook a bit when it comes to THAT list. One thing I've learned is that it's a guide, but it's not the "Rule of Thumb". Being a woman of Virtue is about having standards according to the Word of God. I am learning that the Modern Day, New Testament Virtuous woman is one who posesses the Fruit of the Spirit. You know what I'm talking about...Love, Joy, Peace, Gentleness, Kindness, Long Suffering, Goodness, Faithfulness and Self Control (Gal 5:22-23)...yes, a woman who has THIS TYPE of standard in her life is one who is Virtuous. This type of woman is one who is STRONG and of Moral Excellence and can withstand anything in her life because she is one with the Spirit of God living inside of her.

There is something about the Modern Day Virtuous Woman...she can light up a room with her joy...she captivates her audience with her kindness...she can calm a world of chaos with her peace...she can hold her tongue with self control...she can be gracious with long suffering...and she can submit to God and His Best man with her gentleness. Ohhh, let us strive to be the Modern Day Virtuous Woman for her price is definately FAR ABOVE Rubies.

A Prudent Woman

As I searched the scriptures, I found that there are two adjectives that describes a woman that is worth finding. The first one is a prudent woman.

For YEARS as I read Proverbs, I would see this word prudent however I would read right over it thinking I truly understood what this word meant. I automatically saw it to be another word for "wisdom", but as I looked closer to the actual meaning of this word, I found that there is so much more to it. Being prudent is not just about having wisdom spiritually, but based on its Hebrew meaning, it's having "practical wisdom". This means, natural and time tested wisdom...in other words actually living out what one believes.

I KNOW I can use some work in this area because when I think about the decisions that I've made in my life, man oh man...I know prudence is needed. As a prudent woman, we know how to handle the affairs of our lives. We can manage our money, we are discreet, we are cautious and we have plain ole common sense.

I like this scripture because it shows us something..."Houses and riches are an inheritance from fathers, But a prudent wife is from the LORD." (Proverbs 19:14) What this says to me is...All the natural stuff like homes and wealth is something a father can give so why focus on it? But when a man marries a woman who is discreet, knows how to handle her affairs, can manage her money and is cautious...He will know she's from the Lord.

We have to understand...it's okay and fine to have spiritual wisdom, because it is needed, but we can't be just that...we have to know how to take care of things in the natural as well. Remember, when God presents us to His BEST man and he awakens, he will look at you and KNOW that you are made for him...a prudent woman.

Be Patient...He's Asleep!

The one thing about the Lord that I LOVE is that He's consistent. He's consistent with His Word and when you want to know how he does things, just go to the Word of God.

I love the story of Adam and Eve...not just the story, but how he created them for each other. Adam was created first and God realized that he was alone and found that it wasn't good. What we don't hear much is that God didn't think about making the woman first...

"And the LORD God said, 'It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.' Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name." (Genesis 2:18-19)

As we can see, God created animals FIRST, thinking that they would keep Adam company, but it didn't work because in verse 20 it says "...But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him."

As we read on to verses 21-22 "And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man."

Do you see what I see? God had to put the man to sleep in order to create the helper that was right for Adam. Not just that, but in verse 22 it says that God then took the rib that he had taken from Adam and made it into a woman. Ha! God is baaaaad to be able to create a woman from a rib. The most beautful thing about the next point is this "...and then He brought her to the man". This means, God went some place else, away from where the Adam was sleeping and built this woman.

My point is...we as women of God need to be patient because the man that God has created us for is asleep. Why do you think he's asleep? Because He hasn't finished putting US together yet. What are you doing to allow God to build you into the woman that God's Man is looking for? Sitting by the window, going out to clubs and prancing in front of every Tom, Dick and Harry isn't going to get it done. It's allowing the Lord to do HIS WORK in you. It's time to stop daydreaming and get into the Word of God and ask God to fix those areas that need fixing. God isn't going to send His best to just anyone...and I don't mean that to be a put down...I mean that to say, God's best will attract God's best. If you are attracting anything less than that...it's time to go to God and let him make you over again.

After you are made over and God presents you to THE MAN that He has for you, then the man will say what Adam said in verse 23..."This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh;..." When he looks at you, He will KNOW that you have been created JUST FOR HIM. Be Still my sister in the Lord...Yo Man is Asleep waiting on YOU!!!
