Ishmael or Isaac?

The graciousness of the Lord really overwhelms my heart...in a good way. Even when we make errors in life, God will still make them fruitful to His benefit and ours.

I was reading the story of Abraham and Sarah. I love this story because any child of God that has ever been promised anything by Him knows that waiting for the promise to come to pass may be one of the most difficult things to do. The theme of this blog is about holding out for God's best in a husband. Yes, there will be options prior to the real thing, but if we hold fast to the TRUE promise that the Lord gave to us, some things will be established in our lives and in the lives of others.

Even though Abram and Sarai became disgruntled at the fact that they did not have their own child...even though they came up with their own way of having a child...God STILL blessed them with the promise. Genesis 17:19-21 says: "Then God said: "No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac: I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendents after him. And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him and will make him fruitful and will multiply him excceedingly. He shall beget twelve princes and I will make him a great nation. BUT MY COVENANT I WILL ESTABLISH WITH ISAAC, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this set time next year."

There was nothing wrong with Ishmael, but Isaac was better. God blessed Ishmael and "multiplied him exceedingly", but that was the extent of it. There will be many "Ishmael's" that will show up in your lives however do you have enough willingness internally to hold out until "Isaac" shows up? If you do, then God will "establish His covenant with Isaac".

I don't know about you, but I'm tired of living with the second best. There have been decisions that I've made in my life that were not God's best for me and my life bears the fruit of that...but that doesn't mean that I'm not blessed. My suggestion to you, woman of God, to seek God about your Isaac. He may show you who he is, He may give you some characteristics to look for or He may give you a discerning heart so when he shows up you will know. Which ever it is, stand strong and wait on the Lord.
